July 2016 I visited Norway. Norwegians are direct descendants of the Norsemen, whose seafaring men are called Vikings. They live today still
cosmopolitan concerned but independently (outside the EU) in harmony with their beautiful dominant, rugged, diverse and relatively unspoiled natural
environment. I portrayed ordinary Norwegian men to find the similarity of the Norwegian male face in which these roughness, independence and strength is expressed.
To maybe recognise the norseman, viking, in them? I was hoping at the same time to be allowed to see some of the respectfulness and sensibility, at least in relation to their own
environment, which I suspect is also baked into their DNA. (2016)
